A lényege hogy egy jól kitalált központi törzs elemre különféle nyilazású és tulajdonságú szárnyakat raknak, ezáltal több különféle feladatra alkalmas repülőgép családot hoznak létre, kezdve a kétüléses M 0.65 sebességű alapkiképzőtől az M 0.95 sebességű együléses könnyű tàmogatóig bezárólag.
