Elephant Walk RTAF Flying Training School
The Royal Thai Air Force released a video of the Royal Thai Air Force Flying Training School (FTS) performing an elephant walk on 24 November 2020.
The FTS is based at Kamphaeng Saen air base, Nakhon Pathom and operates the CT/4E with the Basic Squadron, the Pilatus PC-9 with the Advanced Squadron and the Diamond DA42 Twin Star with the Diamond Flight. In the elephant walk a total of 33 aircraft participated, showing the capability and readiness of the Flying Training School.

Spain’s first PC-21 enters ground testing phase
Pilatus has conducted the first engine run of a PC-21 trainer for the Spanish air force.
Photographed at the airframer’s Stans site in Switzerland on 2 December by Stephan Widmer, the lead aircraft has already been painted, and carries the air force registration E.27-01.
Madrid on 30 January 2020 signed a €204 million ($247 million) contract to acquire 24 of the turboprops, along with simulators and support services. At that time, it said the first six aircraft would be delivered in 2020.
Spain will use the Swiss-built type to begin replacing an aged inventory of 60 CASA C-101 jet trainers, which Cirium fleets data shows have been in use for up to 40 years.
Pilatus has so far delivered 214 PC-21s to the air forces of Australia, France, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.
Up to 13 additional Pilatus PC-21s could land at Cognac/Châteaubernard (BA709) to ensure the Advanced phase IV fighter pilot training.
The training will be outsourced with aircraft and maintenance delegated to a private service provider. The instructors will be provided by the military.

French air force buys nine more PC-21 trainers
Pilatus has been awarded a contract to produce another nine PC-21 trainers for the French air force, in a move that will boost the service’s fleet of the turboprop type to 26 aircraft.
Announcing its receipt of the order on 16 July, Pilatus said Paris will “reinforce its training programme” with the additional assets, which are to replace some of its remaining Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jets.
The French air force began operating the Swiss-built PC-21 in 2018, and has 17 examples in use at Cognac-Chateaubernard air base in the west of the country. Babcock International and Dassault deliver the training service via the F-Air 21 programme – previously referred to as FOMEDEC.
“The PC-21s will be deployed to train future military pilots who will subsequently step up to the nation’s multi-role lead-fighter,” the airframer says, referring to the Dassault Rafale.
Deliveries will be made from 2023, Pilatus says, with its follow-on contract also including “ground-based training systems and spare parts”.
Cirium fleets data shows that there are a total of 210 PC-21s in current active service with the air forces of Australia, France, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. Spain also has 24 examples on order, with the first having entered testing last December.
