Spanish Army updated on their modernisation plans. Core concept is equipping around four vehicle families - MBT, IFV, 8x8 and a tracked support family. Combinations of these equip the different brigade types.

Aside the 8x8, everything on that list needs a replacement or upgrade. For the heavy component, Spain plans to enhance the Leopard 2E to the EM standard, and the 2A4 fleet to the 2A8 standard. A mix of upgrades and additional hulls for the ARV requirement.

The ageing M60 support vehicles are to be replaced with Leopard 2 equivalents, which will obviously be a fairly decent capability lift too.

8x8 requirement is underway, procuring Piranha V -based "VCR Dragon". There have been issues with this recently, but they were confident all is now resolved and production progressing well to meet IOC this year and FOC by 2030. Intent to do a larger 2nd and 3rd batch from 2030

Vehículo de Apoyo de Cadenas (VAC) is the tracked support vehicle, required in 4 variants covering 11 roles. We've seen the prototype for this at a few trade shows in recent years, it is another derivative of the ASCOD lineage, which is also the basis of their Pizarro IFV.

As with VCR Dragon, they envisage further orders and variants in the future, but even the baseline requirement has a healthy coverage of the key variants needed, the notable one being potential to flip Pizarro to a new IFV on the much more modern VAC base platform in the future.
