At EDEX 2025 in Cairo, Army Recognition sits down with Aselsan CEO Ahmet Akyol to discuss Türkiye’s latest advances in defense technology and export strategy.

This exclusive interview covers the evolution of Turkish Egyptian defense ties, local industrial partnerships, and the growing demand for Aselsan systems in the Middle East and North Africa.

The video details how Aselsan supports the Turkish UAV ecosystem, including Baykar’s platforms and the uncrewed fighter Bayraktar Kizilelma. Akyol explains how Kizilelma made aviation history by becoming the first UAV to successfully fire a beyond visual range air-to-air missile against a jet-powered target aircraft during a test off Sinop, using Turkish-made radar, sensors, and communication links.

The discussion also explores Aselsan’s Guided Kit Family and Tolun guided munitions, designed to turn conventional bombs into precision weapons from both aircraft and ground launchers. Akyol presents the modernization of main battle tanks, active protection systems against drone and missile threats, and the long-term investment in integrated air defense centred on the Steel Dome concept around Ankara.
