"Second Italian contract for the Leonardo AW169M
On 15 April 2020, the Italian Ministry of Defense ARMAEREO (Air Armaments and Air worthiness Directorate) signed a second contract for the acquisition of fifteen (15) Leonardo AW169M helicopters in the MA (Multiruolo Avanzato) configuration. This second contract follows the one signed on 20 December 2019. That contract earmarked the launch of the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) programme for the replacement of a wide range of helicopters within the Esercito Italianio (Italian Army). In this first contract, ARMAEREO already ordered two examples in the ABC (Addestratore Basico Commerciale) configuration.
On 19 July 2010, AgustaWestland (fore runner of Leonardo) announced the development of the AW169 at the Farnborough International Air Show (UK). The AW169 weighs roughly 4,500 kg and can accommodate 7-10 passengers. The AW169M designation is for the militarised variant, with adaptations for troop transport, utility support, maritime patrol, armed reconnaissance and close air support operations.
