Szeptember 11-én kezdődött el a Bengáli-öbölben a közös japán-indiai JIMEX 2022 hadgyakorlat. 2012 óta ez a hatodik JIMEX hadgyakorlat (ezen csak Japán és India vesz részt, de ezen kívül számos több nemzetiségű hadgyakorlaton vesznek részt közösen). Japán olalról egy helikopter-hordozó (az Izumo) és egy romboló, indiai részről egy fregatt és két korvett a résztvevők, a szervező oldaláról rövidebb időtartamra ezek mellett egy romboló, egy flotta ellátóhajó, egy járőrhajó, meg nem nevezett számú, típusú tengeralattjáró is részt vesz a gyakorlaton. A fedélzeti helikoptereken kívül indiai részről MiG-29K típusú vadászbombázókat is említenek, de arról nincs hír, hogy ezek szárazföldi bázisról, vagy a Vikramaditya repülőgép-hordozó fedélzetéről üzemelve vennék ki a részüket a műveletből.
