The Government of the Netherlands has requested to buy up to two hundred thirty-two (232) AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and up to eight (8) AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections. The following non-Major Defense Equipment items will be included: AMRAAM control section spares, Captive Air Training Missiles, and missile containers; spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; weapon system support and software; classified software delivery and support; classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation; personnel training and training equipment; transportation support; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $570 million.
This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.
The proposed sale will improve the Netherlands capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring it has modern, capable air-to-air munitions. The Netherlands already has AMRAAMs in its inventory and will have no difficulty absorbing these articles into its armed forces.

A frissítés tizenöt új áramköri kártyával és egy következő generációs processzorral helyettesíti az elavult alkatrészeket, a rakéta régi szoftverét modern digitális architektúrára építve át. Az F3R megőrzi a rakéta aerodinamikai formáját, biztosítva a kompatibilitást a meglévő repülőgép-indítórendszerekkel, miközben frissíti belső számítási kapacitását az elektronikus ellenintézkedésekkel szembeni ellenállás javítása és a fokozatos szoftverfrissítések támogatása érdekében az életciklusa során.
Az AIM-120C-8 külső méretei megegyeznek a korábbi C-szériás változatokéval, miközben rugalmasabbá teszi az adatkapcsolatok integrációját a repülési útvonal közepén és a célpontok frissítésére való reagálóképességet. Hatékony hatótávolsága meghaladja a 90 kilométert, az indítási magasságtól és sebességtől függően. A rakéta továbbra is szilárd hajtóanyagú rakétamotorral van felszerelve, és megtartotta a standard AMRAAM robbanófej-kialakítást és kettős gyújtórendszert. A C-8 szolgál alap exportmodellként, és számos szövetséges légierő alkalmazza, lehetővé téve az egységes logisztikát, karbantartást és küldetéstervezést a különböző flották között.
Az amerikai erők számára fenntartott AIM-120D-3 ugyanazt az F3R elektronikai alapfelszereltséget használja, de fejlett adatkapcsolati és navigációs képességekkel rendelkezik, amelyek egyedülállóak a D-sorozatra jellemzően. Fenntartja a kétirányú adatkapcsolatot, amely lehetővé teszi a célpontok frissítését repülés közben, valamint az integrációt a repülőgép érzékelőivel és parancsnoki hálózataival, továbbá GPS-alapú inerciális navigációt a jobb pályavezérlés és pontosság érdekében. A D-3 hatótávolságát általában kedvező indítási körülmények között meghaladó 160 kilométerre becsülik. A továbbfejlesztett processzorteljesítmény támogatja a folyamatos szoftveradaptációt, lehetővé téve a rakéta számára, hogy szerkezeti módosítások nélkül, iteratív képességbeillesztéseket fogadjon szolgálat közben.
A 2024 végén végzett tesztek során a frissített AMRAAM szoftver kiterjesztett harctéri mozgástartományt demonstrált anélkül, hogy befolyásolta volna a repülésirányítást, vagy a pilóták átképzését tette volna szükségessé. A D-3 integrálható az ötödik generációs repülőgépekkel, például az F-35-tel, támogatva az együttműködő harctéri képességeket, és a hálózatba kapcsolt légvédelmi ökoszisztémák részét képezve. A modernizáció az exportorientált C-8 modellel azonos hardverinterfészek fenntartásával biztosítja az amerikai és a szövetséges rendszerek közötti interoperabilitást is.
Pakisztán számára a C-8 korszerűsített irányító része és a továbbfejlesztett elektronikus ellentevékenység-ellenálló képessége előrelépést jelentene a meglévő rendszerekhez képest, miközben megőrizné a kompatibilitást a meglévő indítóállványokkal és küldetésszoftverekkel. A pakisztáni légierő, amelynek vadászgépparkja F-16A/B, F-16C/D, JF-17A/B/C és J-10C repülőgépekből áll, profitálna a C-8 és az F-16-osok közötti interoperabilitásból, különösen a hálózatba kapcsolt célzást vagy elektronikus beavatkozás alatti műveleteket igénylő forgatókönyvekben. Pakisztán legutóbb a 2019 februári Dzsammu és Kasmír feletti összecsapás során erősítette meg az AMRAAM bevetési használatát. A jelenlegi fejlemény az amerikai és pakisztáni védelmi hatóságok közötti megújult együttműködést tükrözheti, lehetővé téve Pakisztán részvételét a közös AMRAAM gyártási keretrendszerben, miközben Pakisztán a meglévő megállapodások értelmében megőrizheti a modern rakétákhoz való hozzáférést F-16-os flottája számára.
