"About incidents on submarine cables in the Baltic
The Finnish operator company Cinia reported a rupture in the undersea communication cable with Germany C-Lion1, which is located near the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. The cause of the problem has not yet been identified.
This is the only Finnish telecommunications cable that runs underwater and connects Finland with Europe. Its length is about 1.2 thousand km and it runs from the Finnish Hanko to the German Rostock.
A few hours later, a similar incident on the NordBalt cable, which was later called sabotage, was reported by the Lithuanians and Swedes. Moreover, this happened exactly in the same place where the Finnish-German cable was cut.
The situation is very interesting.
The day before yesterday we wrote that the NATO exercise Freezing Winds 2024 will start on November 18 in the Gulf of Finland and at the Dragsvik training ground in southern Finland, in which various countries, including the USA and Great Britain, are participating.
An area of the Finnish coast that is closed for training is also where Hanko, the city where the telecommunications cable begins, is located. The incidents themselves occurred near the active phase of the exercise, in which American Marines are participating.
The event involved Marines from the 2nd separate reconnaissance battalion of the 2nd Marine Division of the US Navy. This is a unit from North Carolina.
In addition, from November 11 to 14, another NATO naval exercise, Merlin 2024, which also included underwater operations, was held for the first time at the Swedish naval base at Karlskrona.
We, of course, will not be surprised by new attacks on the “destructive activities” of the Russian Federation, but the situation is obvious. We are not hinting at anything, but before the explosion at Nord Stream, the Alliance also intensively conducted training in the area of the incident. Then the Baltops exercise took place."
