LOM PRAHA: The training of foreign pilots and technicians was affected by the pandemic, but it did not stop
"Aviation, ground and simulated tactical training has been provided by the Aviation Training Center of the state enterprise Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic LOM PRAHA for members of foreign air forces for ten years. However, the past year 2021 was one of the most challenging for the Pardubice "Céelvéčko". Not so much in terms of the number of students and the complexity of the training, but in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, or with the anti-epidemic measures ordered. Here is a brief look back…
The first quarter at CLV Pardubice was significantly affected not only by the "Christmas" covid wave ", but also by unusually unfavorable meteorological conditions. The professional training of flying and ground personnel did not reach the standard form until the middle of the year. Unfortunately, not for long. Reason? SARS-CoV-2.
However, despite these difficulties, the previous year's training mission for Nigerian L-39C training jets was completed (note that the contract was 150 training hours per pilot) and two courses for Nigerian Mi-17 helicopter techniques were held. Their training was focused on performing work after 50, 100 and 200 flying hours of the "seventeen", ie on the level of so-called basic maintenance.
The signatories of the Multinational Aviation Training Center (MATC) project, ie the Army of the Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia and Hungary with the support of the Joint Air Power Competence Center (JAPCC) and Tactical Leadership, trained in the tactical simulation center, which is part of the CLV. Program (TLP).
Austrian Eurofighters and radar pilots, who also invited a radar pilot from Slovenia, were training at the TSC for a week. Members of the Iraqi Air Force, specifically pilots of L-159 ALCA subsonic fighters, also trained tactics here for two weeks.
At the end of the year, on-board technicians from Latvia embarked on a professional course focused on disassembly, assembly and adjustment of the Mi-17 turboshaft engines of the helicopter.
In terms of the number of people, the largest training was standard and emergency procedures on the CPT (Cockpit Procedures Trainer) of the Mi-2 simulator for Polish pilots. This preparation lasted thirteen weeks, from September to early December in weekly courses."
