In Rome, Italy's Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini signed with his Austrian counterpart Klaudia Tanner a preliminary deal for the G2G agreement to supply 18 Augusta AW169M helicopters to the Austrian armed forces.

The deal launches the 'implementation phase of the agreement,' which will lead to the signing of the technical and contractual agreement by December 20 and the signing of the acquisition contract by mid-January to allow the delivery of the first helicopter to Austria in early December 2022. According to the Italian National Armaments Directorate (ARMAERO), the contract will cover six helicopters in the AW169B configuration, as well as up to 12 potentially armed AW169MA helicopters. Spares, training, support, and other items will be included in the sale. The agreement also includes an option for a further six AW169Bs and a further 12 AW169MAs; however, it was not said for how long this option will remain valid

The design of the New Helicopter School of Viterbo is underway

As regards duration, the programme is designed according to a multiannual development plan scheduled to start in 2022 and last a total of ten years (2022-2031). The acquisition of the first machines is expected starting from 2023, in number of 3-4 helicopters per year, during a period of about 8 years (last machine delivery in 2030).

The total cost is estimated at 653 M€.
