"The Dragon Lady will carry out missions well beyond 2025

Recently, the US Department of Defense (US DoD) gave away the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 budget estimates. More became known about the USAF's Lockheed U-2S Dragon Lady and its expectations for the future. The U-2S Dragon Lady platform is a high-demand/low-density aircraft equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and data link systems providing mission essential Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) to the Combatant Commands, Joint and Combined forces, and the Intelligence Community in peace- and wartime.

In the recent past, USAF's thirty U-2S (and two training TU-2S) aircraft were slated more than once to become obsolete. Because of the FY 2021 budget estimates statements, it has been confirmed that the USAF will fly the Dragon Lady long after the year 2025.

Scramble Magazine has learned that it is all about the U-2's Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar System (ASARS) and the Collins Aerospace Senior Year Electro-Optical Reconnaissance System sensor, SYERS-2C. Last year, Raytheon signed a USD 320 million undefinitised contract to develop a new version of the Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar with all weather day/night capability, that flies on the U-2 Dragon Lady aircraft. Up to and including FY 2025, most of the reserved budget will be used for the new U-2 ASARS systems. The ASARS-2B would double the surveillance range while maintaining the mapping and imagery resolution of the current ASARS-2A system.

ASARS-2B is capable of detecting and accurately locating both stationary and moving ground targets; target information is transmitted via a wideband data link to a ground station. The radar is, at a certain height and at an unspecified angle, capable of producing extremely high resolution images at long range. Also, the ten-band, high spatial resolution SYERS-2C sensor, which provides unmatched ability to find, track, and assess moving and stationary targets, was recently flight-tested by the USAF, Lockheed Martin, and Collins Aerospace Systems. It was stated that all actors involved completed the upgrade of the U-2 Dragon Lady fleet with the SYERS-2C electro-optical/infrared sensor capability.

Besides the USAF, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) operates two Lockheed ER-2S Earth resources aircraft as flying laboratories in the Airborne Science Programme under the Agency's Science Mission Directorate."

Erősen valószínű, igazából ezt kiszámítani sem lenne nagy feladat, csak kellenének hozzá az F-86 adatai.

Itt az U-2 esetében az adja az igazán rövid pályahosszt, hogy jet létére nevetségesen kicsi a felszállási sebessége a nagyon kicsi felületi terhelése miatt.
Mindez párosul az igen komoly tolóerő-tömeg aránnyal, azaz még jól is gyorsul.
Az utazó magasságán ugye 5-6%-a csak a levegő sűrűsége, mint itt lenn, ennek megfelelően, a hajtómű tolóereje is brutális itt lent a fentihez képest.
