The Philippine Navy's Naval Air Wing conducted a live fire test of the Spike NLOS missile fired by one of the wing's Leonardo AW159 Wildcat naval helicopter...

The Spike NLOS is the primary air-to-surface weapon of Philippine Navy AW159s. But there are two problems are the moment:
1. It appears that the missile lacks its small warhead lacking the firepower to significantly damage corvette-frigate sized ships. Take note that the Spike NLOS was originally meant to be an anti-tank / anti-bunker weapon. But the threats the Philippine Navy faces is more of larger ships from the PLA Navy, and not just patrol boats.
2. With Israel still at war against Hamas and other groups, the Israeli Government has prioritised the production of Spike missiles for domestic consumption by the Israel Defense Force, leaving export markets dry and having delayed deliveries.

One option is for the Philippine Navy to consider acquiring an alternative, which is the MBDA's Sea Venom missile. Compared to the Spike NLOS, it has a larger warhead but a shorter range. But it was designed as a sea-skimming anti-ship missile, whereas the Spike NLOS is a direct-attack or top-attack weapon. Also, because of its bigger size, only 4 Sea Venom missiles can be carried by an AW159 Wildcat helicopter.
