A tough week is ending in Syria, much has happened in such short period, but maybe the new week is reserving some positive surprises, here goes a quick summary:
1) The Palmyra concert and week festival was a very positive PR success, most of the world saw the power of art/music vs the State promoted terrorists by several countries. The PR was not only for the outside world but for the regular Syrians, to give them hope that their life can get back to somehow what it used to be. Hopefully this positive views on Syria will continue from now onwards.
2) ISIS got what they wanted, they stopped the allied forces advance toward Arak and Al Sukhnah, by fiercely attacking Al Sha'er oil and gas fields. Once more it was predictable, ISIS tried once in East Damascus from Suweida and form the retreating terrorists from Al Qayratayn, then attacked Palmyra from the north, then tried once more to block Khanaser road, al 3 attempts ended badly for ISIS, except Khanaser which ISIS held some of the villages they gained. It was crystal clear ISIS was going to attempt another one and Al Sha'er was at reach and could inflict Damages to Syria's energy supply to main towns. Was surprised to learn only 50 soldiers were holding many CPs (it needs further confirmation), once ISIS stormed they were not a match for them and retreated, this is why ISIS managed to advance so fast. The counter attack was slow and ISIS penetrated deeply and took most of the 20 oil & gas fields, last nbr I heard was 12 taken.
The advance toward Arak and its key gas field was stopped cold, no actions at all anymore from the allied forces, they built defenses positions to hold what was gained and will wait.
Several troops are now in the way to Al Sha'er mountain, this will be a week long battle, the allied forces will win once more but there was a strategic defeat in all this by losing 2-3 weeks of hard fought advance toward Arak, not to mention several soldiers and workers that may have perished with it.
3) ISIS once more attempt a major disruption to Syria by attacking today the Khanaser road, the initial attempt was repelled but expect more waves since this combined to Al Sha'er battle can be very disruptive to Syria's overall war strategy.
4) Turkish and Western back terrorists once more took advantage of the so called ceasefire "just for UN sakes" and stormed the critical town of Khan Touma, not only taking it as many other small villages around, this is a serious defeat since is pushes the allied forces away from M5 and let the terrorists with the upper hand now that they control the 2 most vital "close to M5" cities, Ei Eis and Khan Touma.
The battle to retake Khan Touma is under way but again the allied forces lost many man and most of all the allied forces lost all the offensive initiative gained from Oct 15 to March 16, southern/western Aleppo have turned into a defensive war and Syria is losing it gradually.
There is no doubt that the turkish/western backed terrorists advance in western/southern Aleppo came due to a sharp reduction of CAS for defensive and air bombing campaigns to preempt any announced rat advance.
5) Good news came from East Ghouta, this is a place where a lot of action is on going.
a) Rats are eating each other, 3 large factions are infighting and loses are mounting, this is extremely positive since it open up a lot of possibilities and opportunities for the allied forces to advance, not necessarily in the area were they are fighting, since it is happening deep inside East Ghouta, mostly in Mesraba, Madyara and Irbeen, but certainly rats will shift their terrorists to more front lines making it thinner defenses.

b) Taking advantage of the above, inside Dayr al Asafir cauldron, the allied forces liberated a week ago the village of Rikabiyah, getting really closer to the Dayr al Asafir Al Qaeda Nusrat stronghold.
Besides that, this morning there are reports that the allied forces stormed Zebedeen's outskirts, if this advance is successful and all the village is liberated then Dayr al Asafir will be in a checkmate position and will fall faster.

6) The crisis in Qamishli that brought chaos to this town 10 days ago between Kurds police and NDF has ended in few days when both YPG forces and SAA got involved. The aftermath of the crisis may be a good indication on what is to come for Syria. A peaceful deal was arranged, all gains were returned to both sides (the prison and backery were returned yesterday to the Syrian Government control) and more over the SAA took over all the CP and patrolling inside Qamishli. The local NDF is now only controlling the situation inside the tribal areas in the many villages under the Syrian Government south of Qamishli. This is an interesting situation were it shows the Syrian Government influence over local disputes and the power of the presence of the regular SAA inside a town to keep the peace.
